The Hannibal Board of Public Works has approved rate hikes for electricity, water and sewer.
The increases, which were first announced in April, will take effect July 1. Residential electricity rates are going up five percent and all classes of water and sewer charges are being raised three percent.
The average customers will see electric bills rise by $4.50 a month. Water and sewer costs will climb by about 90 cents a month.
The increases will generate a total of $600,000 The money will be used to buy new equipment, install a water main under Bear Creek, upgrade the sewer plant, boost maintenance and other projects.
Electricity rates were increased by an average of 38 percent on Jan. 1, 2009. Water rates went up by five percent and sewer rates by 15 percent on July 1, 2009.
