More than 130 people are signed up for the inaugural Catch Cupid if you Can 5K run/walk.
“It’s a great response to a first-time event,” said Amy Vaughn, director of Kids in Motion. “People are excited for the chance to do a 5K in beautiful Riverview Park and they want to support Kids in Motion.”
The event starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, in Riverview Park. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Packet pickup is 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at the Hannibal Parks & Recreation office at 320 Broadway (City Hall) and before the event at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at Riverview Park.
Vaughn said Cupid will lead the event, played by a participant in the Kids in Motion program.
The Hannibal Parks & Recreation is sponsoring the event. Proceeds go to Kids in Motion, which is part of Douglass Community Services. Kids in Motion is an employment program for at-risk teens and pre-teens which teaches the value of work and community. Participants in the KIM program spend time in Riverview Park in the summer, picking up trash, weeding and clearing trails. During the run/walk, KIM members will be on the course cheering on participants.
The event is just a few days before Valentine’s Day, so raffle prizes will have a romantic theme, such as hotel stays, theater tickets, facials, massages and restaurant gift certificates. Every woman who crosses the finish line will receive a rose. There will be prizes for the first man and woman to finish.
