Some experiences never get old. For the Hannibal-LaGrange Lady Trojans’ soccer team, beating William Woods is likely one of those things.
Less than a week after the Lady Trojans beat the Lady Owls 4-1 in their last home game of the regular season, the scene was repeated Friday afternoon in the first round of the American Midwest Conference women’s soccer tournament. This go-round, the Lady Trojans weren’t able to find the back of the net as often, but also kept the Lady Owls from finding it at all in a 2-0 victory.
HLG split the scoring evenly between the two quarters. Leslie Gordon gave the Lady Trojans the early lead when she completed an assist from Fernanda Miacci in the 37th minute of the game.
Miacci was also in on the other goal of the day, which she scored with help from Chelsea Reutenauer in the 55th minute of the game.
Picking up the shutout for the Lady Trojans was Morgan Read, who had four saves in the game.
The No. 4-seeded Lady Trojans will now face the No. 1-seeded Mckendree University Lady Bearcats on Monday, Nov. 9 in Lebanon, Ill. Start time for the game is set for 6 p.m.
