Hannibal just couldn’t hold off Mexico in their Monday night matchup.
The Lady Pirates came away the losers in a 46-36 Mexico victory.
“They just really wouldn’t miss much,” Hannibal assistant coach Mike Blase said of Mexico. “Competed well against a very talented team.”
Mexico got a huge lead on Hannibal in the first quarter with a 21-7 lead. Mexico added 14 more points and Hannibal 11 to give Mexico a 35-18 lead at halftime. Hannibal put up seven more points in the third quarter, but Mexico did one better with eight. Hannibal’s only leading quarter came in the fourth when the Lady Pirates collected 10 points and Mexico only managed three, but the damage had already been done. Melanie Blase lead the Lady Pirates with 14 points and Krystal Ferguson followed with 13. Cassidy Trenhaile and Lauren Holliday had three points a piece and Jodeci Washington scored two points.
The next game for Hannibal is Thursday at Fulton.

Hannibal JV wins
The JV squad of the Hannibal Lady Pirates basketball team improved to 9-4 on the season with a 37-36 victory over Mexico.
Kaitlyn Booth led the team with a total of nine points scored, Olivia Strickland followed with eight, Lauren Holliday came in third with seven points, followed by Paige Utterback with six, Melanie Blase with four and Jodeci Washington with three.
