Hannibal Hurricanes start season with strong showing

Hannibal Hurricanes Summer Swim Team opened its season on June 13 by participating in the 10 and Under Canton Invitational. The team competed against four other IL/Mo teams. Assistant Coach Jessica Bush was excited by the number of new swimmers that competed in the meet.
The following Wednesday, June 17, the Hurricanes hosted their home opener competing against Can-Oka. Coach Kara Viorel was pleased with her swimmers’ performances. Many of the swimmers are practicing five days a week and taking advantage of the two times a day practices. Several of the swimmers have been traveling to Illinois, St. Louis, and Columbia to compete in long course USA meets. During the weekend of June 19-21, 11 HHST swimmers attended a USA Swimming sanctioned meet at the University of Missouri, hosted by Columbia Swim Club. Coach Viorel was ecstatic about the many fast swims the kids had. Many qualifying times were met to take the kids to stronger competition at the end of July and August.
A new meet record was earned by Lane Kennedy at the Columbia Invitational in the 11-12 50 meter Backstroke with a time of 34.92. Meet results follow:
