MOBERLY —

Chelsea Reutenauer and Elise Bensman each scored twice as Hannibal defeated Mexico, 5-2 in Monday’s district semifinal.
Bensman put the Lady Pirates on the board first with a goal in the 18th minute thanks to an assist by Katrinka Coons. Mexico would tie the game four minutes later, but another goal by Bensman – assisted by Jordan Campbell – gave Hannibal a 2-1 lead going into halftime.
Reutenauer and Campbell would each find the net for the Lady Pirates in the second half before Mexico got on the board again in the 63rd minute courtesy of a penalty kick. Reutenauer would add another goal with 10 minutes left in regulation, on an assist from Bensman.
Whitney Voepel made two saves in posting the win in goal for Hannibal (12-12). The Lady Pirates will now face Moberly at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the district championship game. So far this season, Moberly has had the upper hand in both meeting with Hannibal, winning 3-2 and 3-0, but Hannibal coach Billie Heeley is confident in her team’s ability to shake off the earlier setbacks.
“We’re ready to beat them and advance,” she said. “We really want this game bad and we’re going to come out ready to go.”
