Pirates split duals
The Hannibal wrestlers headed down to Warrenton on Thursday to take on Warrenton and Fort Zumwalt East. The Pirates edged out Ft. Zumwalt East, but lost to the host Warriors.
Once again, the Pirates were done in by open slots in its dual loss. Unable to field a full lineup, Hannibal gave up 24 points to Warrenton with open slots. The Warriors had just one open slot.
Wins for the Pirates against Warrenton came from Bryant Ruby (130 pounds), Jacob Janes (140 pounds), Blake Jarman (145 pounds), Phillip Perry (160 pounds) and Jordan Strickland (285 pounds). Picking up losses for the black and red were Zach Shipley (125 pounds), Kyle Wessel (135 pounds) and Jake Borgemeyer (215 pounds).
Against Ft. Zumwalt East, the open slots didn’t hurt Hannibal as much. Hannibal had four openings, while Ft. Zumwalt East had three. On the mat, Hannibal went 4-2 in the dual. Janes, Jarman, Perry and Borgemeyer were the Pirate winners. Shipley and Strickland lost their matches.

At Korf Gymnasium on Thursday night, the Hannibal Lady Pirates lost to Moberly 49-13. Hannibal is 0-17 on the season, and 0-10 in the North Central Missouri Conference.

The Mark Twain boys basketball team won against on Thursday. Taking on Silex, the Tigers survived a slow start to win 62-44. Silex led 12-4 early before Mark Twain fought back to tie it at 14 after one quarter. David Stark led Mark Twain with 16 points. He was followed by Jared Runyon, who had 14 points.
