Three members of the Hannibal softball team were recognized with selection to North Central Missouri Conference honors.

Josie Zeiger, Lauran Haye and Taylor Simms made the list for the Lady Pirates, who posted a 6-4 mark in league play to finish third in the team standings behind champion Mexico and runner-up Fulton.

Zeiger is a senior second baseman who batted .345 with two home runs, eight RBIs and 12 runs this season. She made 29 defensive assists, 25 putouts and just six errors in 60 total chances.

“The results don't show what she really has done,” Hannibal coach Andrew Pollard said. “She doesn't have the opportunity to get the RBIs she did last year, but she is still an important aspect of our team.”

Haye is a senior outfielder who led Hannibal with her .390 batting average this year. She roped seven doubles and drove in 11 runs while scoring six herself.

“Lauran hits everything hard and it's been that way the whole season,” Pollard said. “If we get some people on base, she can definitely do some damage.”

Simms is a sophomore third baseman and catcher who batted .373 on the year with 12 RBIs and 12 runs. She totaled five extra-base hits.

“It's nice seeing a younger player be honored who will continue to be a huge asset in the future,” Pollard said. “She's a phenomenal hitter, and for much of this year her defense has been great.”

Hannibal (8-10), the No. 2 seed, is scheduled to host third-seeded Winfield (13-10) on Thursday night at Veterans Sports Complex in the semifinals of the Class 3 District 7 Tournament.
