The Monroe City softball team churned out a methodical 4-1 home win over Clark County in its Clarence Cannon Conference opener on Tuesday night.

The Monroe City softball team churned out a methodical 4-1 home win over Clark County in its Clarence Cannon Conference opener on Tuesday night.

McKenzie West pitched a complete game for Monroe City, striking out 14 while allowing five hits and an unearned run. 

Clark County scored its lone tally in the first inning. 

Lauren Youngblood hit an RBI single for Monroe City to tie the game at 1 in the third. 

Riley Quinn doubled home Bailee Hays in the fourth to give the hosts the advantage.

Rachel Smith delivered an RBI single in the sixth to make it 3-1, followed by an RBI groundout by Hays to establish the final margin.

Monroe City finished with eight hits in the win. 

West retired 10 of 11 at one point as she settled into the game in the circle. The star pitcher stranded runners in scoring position in each of the final three innings to preserve the lead.

West contributed offensively with a single, double and run scored, while Skyler Kauble had a single and a run.

Mackenzie Moss drew a pair of walks and scored a run.

Monroe City (2-1) is scheduled to host Palmyra on Thursday.
