The Palmyra girls tennis team fell 7-2 at Quincy Notre Dame in its first match of the season Monday.

Kendra Maples and Jansen Juette earned the lone points for the Lady Panthers.

Maples began her senior year with a 6-2, 7-6 win at No. 1 singles, while freshman Juette won 6-2, 2-6, 10-5 at No. 6.

Palmyra was swept in doubles matches.

"The girls were really nervous for the first match, but I think they played well," Palmyra coach Jessica Gottman said. "The wind was a factor for everyone tonight. It’s always good to get the first match out of the way and it also gives us an idea of what we need to work on."

Palmyra is scheduled to play at Moberly on Tuesday.
