The Hannibal Hurricanes scored 621 points Saturday to place fourth overall at the River Country Summer Championships.
The Hannibal Hurricanes swim team scored 621 points Saturday to place fourth in the team competition at the River Country Summer League Championships in Sheridan.
Every Hurricane who competed contributed points to the team’s total (top 16 score).
Can-Oka won the 12-team meet with 2,243 points, followed by Sheridan (1,452) and Pike County (693).
The Hurricane Swimmer of the Meet was 10-year-old Titus Campbell, who raced to 100 percent individual and relay personal records.
Campbell dropped an average of 14 percent in each of his races, including an improvement of seven seconds in the 25 butterfly (21.00) for his highest finish (seventh). He also lopped five seconds off his 25 backstroke (22.84), and two more off his 50 freestyle (36.68) to make his first USA Swimming B time.
Ten-year-old Kendall Kurz won the Hurricane Gargantuan Swim Award for dropping five seconds in her 100 individual medley (1:40.23) to place fifth and earn her first USA Swimming B cut in that event.
Kaylee Michaels secured the RelayBig Award with a one-second drop in her breaststroke leg (36.67) of the mixed 13-14 200 medley relay.
Four Hurricanes won high-point awards.
Six-year-old Thatcher Johnson won the boys 6-and-under division, while teammate Ella Ricker did the same in the girls 7-8 group.
Among 13-14 year-olds, Gabe Foster and Ainsley Bennett each won all four of their races to take their respective high-point contests.

The Hurricanes plan to host free tryouts at the YMCA pool at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5, and Thursday, Sept. 6. No advance registration or YMCA membership are required. Tryout swimmers should bring a swim suit and goggles and be able to swim 25 yards (one length of the pool) in freestyle and in backstroke.
