The Hannibal Hurricanes amassed 340 points to take third in a River Country Summer Swim League meet in Sheridan on Wednesday. The meet was won by the host Sheridan Swim Team with 520 points with Adair Swim Association’s taking second with 397 points.
Leading the way for the Hurricanes was 12-year-old Andie Lowney, who swam to four personal records (PRs) including improvements of four seconds in the 50 breast (50.00), second seconds in the 100 IM (1:30.31), and one second in the 50 fly (40.50).
Nine-year-old Scarlett Sternke won the Hurricane Gargantuan Swim Award for dropping two seconds in her 50 free (38.10) to earn her first USA Swimming B cut. Nine-year-old Sarah Curry secured the RelayBig Award with a two-second drop in her leg of the 100 free relay (21.86).

The Hurricanes will offer free tryouts at the YMCA pool at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, and 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25. No advance registration or YMCA membership are required. Tryout swimmers should bring a swim suit and goggles and be able to swim 25 yards (one length of the pool) in freestyle and in backstroke.
