The Hannibal Legion Post 55 A baseball team responded from a tough loss to beat Elsberry 5-1 in the nightcap of a doubleheader.
The Hannibal Legion Post 55 A baseball team got knocked down by Elsberry on Wednesday at Clemens Field.
But Post 55 stood right back up.
Following an 8-2 loss in the first game of a doubleheader, Hannibal secured a 5-1 win against the same opponent.
Tristan Charlton threw the first three innings to earn the victory in the nightcap. He allowed just one run on two hits.
Mason Tharp entered in relief to shut down Elsberry for the remainder of the five-inning contest.
Gary Culp, Tharp and LaTrell Wright each contributed two hits a piece for the offense.
“We had a lot better pitched game,” said Hannibal coach Charlie Culp III. “The bats came alive and we pushed across five runs. The boys just have to stay focused. There is a lot of baseball to play in the coming weeks.”
Hannibal fell behind 8-0 in the first game before scoring a pair of runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth.
Drake Dudley singled to center to score Charlton, before Culp drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in Kegan Birck.
Hannibal loaded the bases with one out in the sixth, but Elsberry turned a double play to thwart Post 55's scoring chance.
The hosts went down in order in the seventh to end the game.
