The Hannibal Hoots struck out 13 times during a 10-2 loss at the Chillicothe Paints on Wednesday night.

Hannibal (3-5) fell behind 5-0 through four innings and was unable to recover at VA Memorial Stadium.

Chillicothe (4-2) tacked on five runs in the bottom of the eighth to put the contest out of reach.

Quinton Kujawa started for Hannibal and allowed five earned runs while striking out five over five innings of work in the loss. 

Hannibal native Scot Roberts pitched two innings of scoreless relief, helping the Hoots inch closer as they recorded single tallies in both the sixth and seventh.

Patrick Donohue scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the sixth for Hannibal's first run. Donohue followed that with a two-out double to score Richie Well in the seventh. 

But the Hoots trimmed their deficit no closer than 5-2.

Chillicothe capitalized on two walks and a hit by pitch to plate five runs on just two hits in the eighth. 

Canyon McWilliams struck out eight over five scoreless innings to earn the win for the Paints.

Well led Hannibal with two of its seven hits, while five Chillicothe hitters posted multi-hit nights for a 10-hit attack.

The teams are scheduled to play again in Chillicothe on Thursday.
