Brown, Hannibal's top singles player, won a quarterfinal over Timberland's No. 2 player, 6-2, 6-3.

The sophomore lost to Holt's top competitor 3-6, 1-6 in the semifinals before falling to Timberland's No. 1 in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 2-6, in the third-place match.

Only the top two advanced to sectionals.

“It was a good effort for Austin and definitely something to build on,” Hannibal coach Bob Catalpa said.

Ethan Bross won 6-0, 6-0 over Troy in the first round of singles before losing to Fort Zumwalt West, 5-7, 0-6.

Trent Kempker and Donovan Mefford won their first-round doubles match 6-1, 6-1 over Troy before falling 0-6, 1-6 to Liberty Wentzville.

Collin Poage and Luke Boyd lost 6-4, 3-6, 4-6 to Zumwalt West in the first round of doubles.
