The Hannibal-LaGrange University men's golf team continues to move up in the NAIA rankings with outstanding performances by its top competitors.

This past weekend was no exception.

HLGU finished first out of 15 squads at the Bethel (Kan.) Spring Invitational.

The Trojans began the event at Hesston Golf Park on day one and played their second round at Sand Creek Golf Course.

HLGU scored 288 on day one and 302 on day two to beat runner-up Ottawa University (Kan.) by nine strokes.

Junior Conor Brady led the Trojans with a score of 69/74 and tied for first place as an individual.

“I am very pleased to see Conor continuing to play at an extremely high level,” HLGU coach Thomas Brennan said. “He has been our low finisher in each tournament so far this spring, and he has put a lot of work in to get to this point."

HLGU's next three golfers — freshmen Rafael Beirana (73/77), Robin Conlan (77/73) and Tom Sims (72/78) — each carded a 150 to finish tied for 12th place.

Freshman Ferdinand Lohff posted a solid first day with a 74 but struggled through the second round with an 83 for a total score of 157 to close out the scoring.

"I am very proud of the way the men's team played this past weekend,” Brennan said. “It was a very big win for our program, and it continues the momentum we have been building all season long.”
