The Hannibal boys tennis team managed just one win in singles and got swept in doubles Thursday during an 8-1 home loss to Quincy Notre Dame.

The Hannibal boys tennis team managed just one win in singles and got swept in doubles Thursday during an 8-1 home loss to Quincy Notre Dame.

Trent Kempker won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles for the Pirates' lone point of the day.

Hannibal fell to 3-2 on the season.

Austin Brown lost the No. 1 singles match 3-6, 0-6. Ethan Bross went down 3-6, 4-6 at No. 2, while No. 3 Collin Poage was competitive to the finish but fell 5-7, 4-6.

Luke Boyd lost 3-6, 4-6 at No. 4 and Donovan Mefford fell 2-6, 2-6 at No. 6 to round out varsity singles.

Brown and Poage lost the top doubles match 3-8, while Bross and Boyd fell 5-8 at No. 2. Kempker and Mefford were shut out 0-8 at No. 3.

In junior varsity doubles, Nathan DeStefane and Nick Tompkins fought down to the wire to win 11-10 (7-5).

David Hjelm and Caleb Newlon won 10-4, while Mason Jones and Chris Lewis won 8-1 and Blayden Terrill and Hayden Merreighn secured an 8-4 victory. 

Gabe Brummell and Johnathan Zielinski picked up an 8-3 win.

Mason Jones won 6-0 in JV singles.

Hannibal is scheduled to play at a varsity tournament in Wentzville on Friday and Saturday.
