The Hannibal golf team blew away its competition Thursday during a triangular against a pair of North Central Missouri Conference rivals at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Moberly.

Hannibal posted a team score of 186 to finish 24 strokes ahead of runner-up Moberly. Fulton took third at 255.

“Every single one of our kids would tell you they could do better, but scores are definitely starting to come around for most of them,” Hannibal coach Jason Noland said.

Bryson Yowell of Moberly took medalist honors with a 2-over-par 37.

Preston Bennett led Hannibal by carding a 43, followed by Gabe Falconer at 44 and Hunter Parker at 47.

Claire Thomas shot a 52, while Josh Paubel recorded a 55 to round out the Pirates' varsity lineup.

The Hannibal junior varsity team played the same course and posted a team score of 211, one stroke away from a mark that would have tied for second in the varsity match.

Danny Colborn (47), Gabe Keesey (49) and Hayden Rice (53) paced the Pirates at the JV level.

Noland mentioned he bases his varsity starters on each player's cumulative season average.

There is an ongoing battle for the No. 5 varsity spot.

“It's a competition,” Noland said. “They're all right there competing and they're having fun. That's the important part.”

Hannibal returns to Heritage Hills for an invitational at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
