Thirty Hannibal Hurricanes piled up points to place first in the small-team division at the Heartland Area Central Regionals YMCA Swimming Championships.

Thirty Hannibal Hurricanes piled up points over the weekend at Principia College in Elsah, Illinois, to place fourth among all squads and first in the small-team division at the 13-team Heartland Area Central Regionals YMCA Swimming Championships.

Winning the overall team title was YMCA of O’Fallon with 5,832 points, followed by Tri-City YMCA with 4,773 and Edward Jones (St. Louis) YMCA with 2,752. 

Earning Hurricane Swimmer of the Meet honors was 14-year-old Audrey Noland, who swam to six personal records, achieved new Area Championships and USA Swimming A times in the 50 (27.05) and 100 (1:00.67) freestyles, and scored points (top 16) in all seven individual races. 

In addition to Noland, seven other Hurricanes earned a total of 12 new Area Championships qualifying times, including Isabelle Hodson, Maddie Johnson, Kate Maune, Ella Ricker, Kaylee Michaels, Atticus Sternke, and Issac Chen.

Ten-year-old Jack Brisco earned the Hannibal Gargantuan Swim Award for knocking 15 seconds off his 50 fly (1:02.60), while Hodson won RelayBig honors for her two PRs in the victorious girls 11-12 200 medley (swimming the fly leg in 31.45) and 200 freestyle (swimming the second leg in 28.97) relays. 

Hodson was joined by seven other Hurricanes swimming 100 percent relay PRs: Dawson Behl, Mahdi Behniaye, Chen, Gabe Foster, Maune, Mason McIntyre, and Ainsley Bennett.

Bennett set 11-12 girls Hurricane team records in the 100 back (1:02.73), 100 breast (1:15.35), and 100 fly (1:02.91). The fly was also a meet record.
