Jada Summers scored 29 points to lead the Monroe City girls basketball team over Clarence Cannon Conference rival Centralia 64-48 on Friday night for its 20th win of the season.
Delanie Okenfuss netted 11 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter to help the visiting Lady Panthers seal the victory.
Monroe City made 23 of 39 attempts from the free-throw line in a battle that featured 47 combined fouls.
“It was hard for both teams because there was no flow at all to this game,” Monroe City coach Cody Leonard said. “No one is here to watch us shoot free throws. They want to watch a basketball game. But that wasn’t changing, so we just had to keep plugging away.”
Monroe City (20-3, 4-2 CCC) took a 14-10 lead through the first eight minutes of play. Emilie Okenfuss drained a 3-pointer in the second quarter to help the visitors take a 29-23 advantage into the intermission.
Five Centralia (10-12, 1-4) players scored in the third quarter as the hosts tried to get back into the game, but Lauren Youngblood provided a spark with her only five points of the night during the period to keep Monroe City ahead 46-36 going to the fourth.
Monroe City sank 13 freebies in the final period to put the game away.
Emilie Okenfuss finished with nine points, while Riley Quinn rounded out Monroe City's scoring with four points.
Olivia Eikel led Centralia with 16 points in the losing effort.
Monroe City plays at Brookfield on Tuesday night.
