The Palmyra wrestling team fell to Kirksville 68-9 but beat Macon 33-30 in a triangular on Wednesday night.

The Palmyra wrestling team had to forfeit half its matches Wednesday night against host Kirksville. The seven incomplete weight classes led to a 68-9 loss.

Of the seven contested matches, the Panther grapplers could not muster much success.

Palmyra dropped five of the contested matches in the lopsided loss to the Tigers.

“The team had a real rough outing against Kirksville,” Panthers coach Josh Buatte stated. “We just didn’t wrestle like we are capable of. Kirksville came out ready to wrestle, we didn’t. That’s all there really is to it.”

Grayson Stevens and Ross Arch came away victorious for the Panthers.

Stevens earned a first-period win by pin fall in 46 seconds in his 132-pound match.

Arch remained unbeaten on the season with an 8-1 win over Blake Howard at 138.

The Panthers bounced back to earn a split on the evening with a thrilling 33-30 win over Macon.

In the final bout of the match, Kaden Crane earned an 8-3 win over Trace Brown to break the 30-all tie.

It was the fourth time Crane has defeated his Macon opponent this season.

The team win was also the third time the Panthers have defeated Macon.

“We have seen them a lot lately,” the Panthers coach said of wrestling Macon four times this times this season in duals. “But it was nice to see the team bounce back and wrestle well.”

Connor Roberts picked up a win at 160 with a pin with just 18 seconds left in the match.

Boyd Triplett (120), Isaac Stoner (138), Ross Arch (145) and Dylan Redd (152) all earned wins via forfeits.
