The Hannibal boys basketball team couldn't keep pace during a 61-48 loss to Fort Zumwalt East in a consolation game at the Warrenton Tournament.
The Hannibal boys basketball team didn't have an answer for Fort Zumwalt East in the second quarter Thursday.
Hannibal managed just five points in the period and trailed by 11 at halftime in what ultimately turned into a 61-48 loss in a consolation game at the Warrenton Tournament.
“Fort Zumwalt East had a nice half-court trap that we struggled with and had a few turnovers early,” Hannibal coach Marty Hull said. “Of course this led to less shots and low scoring output. … I told the players it is only a bad loss if you do not learn from it.”
Dezi Jones scored 25 points for the Pirates in the losing effort, 14 of which came in the fourth quarter as part of a last-ditch effort to get back into the game.
Three Lions finished with double-digit point totals, while two more recorded nine. Tre Payne paced Zumwalt East with 14 points.
Hannibal trailed 26-15 at the intermission and remained behind 38-26 after the third quarter. The Pirates couldn't gain any ground in the fourth despite scoring 22 points over the final eight minutes of play.
Wyatt Waelder added 10 points for Hannibal.
