The Hannibal Middle School 7th grade boys basketball team earned its seventh win of the season by dominating Mexico 52-22 on Monday night.

DaeShon Glasgow made his presence known for the Pirates with a game-high 14 points and five steals. Markahl Humphrey provided 13 points, while Haden Robertson controlled down low for 12 rebounds. Dalton Miller finished with seven points and six boards.

Hannibal (7-2) took advantage of close-range buckets to put the game away. Pirates coach Brett Niemann noted his team didn't attempt a shot outside of the paint until the fourth quarter.

“We executed our offense as well as I've seen in a long time, and we attacked all night, passed up good shots to get great shots, and worked the ball inside,” Niemann said. “I'm proud of the effort and execution tonight. We played the game the right way, together and in attack mode on both ends of the court.”

While Monday's contest was a blowout, the Pirates' previous game was anything but. Hannibal fell to an undefeated Palmyra squad 27-25 in overtime Thursday. Humphrey provided 10 points, while Glasgow scored five, including a late three to tie it up.

Hannibal was on the right side of a close outcome last Tuesday, when the Pirates came from behind to top Kirksville 39-37. Dontaveion Caldwell and Miller were strong inside, each contributing nine points. Robertson had eight rebounds, while Glasgow provided seven points.

Hannibal also defeated Bowling Green 51-35 on Nov. 21. The Pirates were down 12, but the bench brought defensive energy and attacked to lead a comeback, overcoming a double-digit deficit in the second half for the second consecutive game. The Pirates outscored the Bobcats 31-9 in the second half.

Humphrey scored 17 points to lead the way, while Miller had a breakout game with eight points and six rebounds. Drew Porter added seven points.

Hannibal plays at Clark County on Thursday night.
