Tyler Leonard and Austin Carroll went undefeated Saturday to lead the Hannibal wrestling team to fourth place out of 18 squads at the Fort Zumwalt North Tournament.

Leonard, a freshman, earned a first-place medal by finishing 3-0 in the 126-pound division. He improved to 5-0 on the season after a pair of wins at Helias in the opener.

"(Leonard) has had an excellent start to his freshman year," Hannibal coach Derek Greening said. "At Helias he beat a junior that was already going for his 100th career varsity win. That kid has also placed in the state tournament so he is a very solid kid. Tyler is very physical and has an explosiveness in his moves that is almost impossible to stop."

Carroll, one of the Pirates two returning state qualifiers, recorded a 3-0 record to win the 170-pound division.

"Austin had a great day," Greening said. "He had great mat movement all day and that really helped him be successful."

The Pirates finished 21-17 overall at the invitational.

Kaleb Greening (145) and Chase Kirby (285) each finished fourth in their respective divisions with 2-2 showings. Bailie Rethorn (120) and Jameson White (195) posted identical .500 records for the tournament.

"It was exciting for the kids to have a good team showing," coach Greening concluded. "I hope they keep pushing each other in the practice room and continue to get better."

Hannibal returns to the mats Tuesday in Quincy.
