Kamryn Flesner finished with 30 points and 13 rebounds to lead Western-Payson to a 57-40 win over Hannibal.
The Hannibal girls basketball team made stopping Western-Payson’s top scorer its No. 1 priority Saturday.
The Lady Pirates managed to do just that, holding Blair Borrowman to nine points. Kamryn Flesner, however, did the damage, scoring 30 and grabbing 13 rebounds to lead Western-Payson to a 57-40 win.
“We really focused a lot of attention on Borrowman and ran some different defensive schemes just to keep her off the ball, but she and her teammates did a good job finding Flesner,” Hannibal coach Ben Jamerson said. “She came out of the woodwork and really took over.”
Flesner netted 10 points in the third quarter to help turn a 32-26 halftime edge into a 15-point advantage entering the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Kaylee Falconer scored 12 points on the game to lead the Lady Pirates, who played their fourth game in five days.
Mariah Strong came off the bench to add eight.
Jamerson mentioned Strong was a bright spot for Hannibal (2-3) in the losing effort.
“Mariah really came out and played with a lot of energy, got some rebounds and started securing underneath like we needed,” he said.
