HMS 8th grade gets revenge against Black Hawk

The Hannibal Middle School 8th grade volleyball team was on a quest for revenge Monday night against Black Hawk.

The Lady Pirates accomplished their mission.

Hannibal won the first set 25-16 and shut the door with a 25-19 victory in Game 2 for the sweep, avenging a Sept. 16 loss to Black Hawk that came in the championship match of the Troy Tournament.

“I was very proud of the improvement the girls made from the last time we played Black Hawk in the Troy Tournament,” Hannibal coach Carli Penrod said. “The girls showed that they learned from their mistakes from that past game and really focused on keeping their heads up.”

Penrod mentioned defense was the key to victory.

“Defense has been our focus for the past week and the girls showed improvement in this area by communicating about what was happening on the other side of the court,” she said. “The girls also stayed aggressive and kept swinging at Black Hawk which helped us win this rematch game.”
