The Hannibal Middle School volleyball teams took care of business for wins over Mexico and Winfield.

HMS 7th grade tops Mexico, Winfield

Nora Hark served seven straight points in the second set Monday to help the Hannibal Middle School 7th grade volleyball team to a 25-15, 25-20 sweep of Mexico.

Alaina White served five straight points in the first game before Kate Maune finished out the game at the service line for the Lady Pirates.

Following the Game 1 win, Hannibal never looked back.

“We kept that momentum going, even through a few rough patches of passing, to win,” Hannibal coach Megan Phillips said.

HMS defeated Winfield 25-16, 25-6 last Thursday.

Serina Farrah took over as setter for Hark, who was injured, while Brynn Burton served 17 straight to take ahold of the second set.

“We still remain undefeated as we enter the last two weeks of the season,” Phillips noted.

Lady Pirates 8th grade earns pair of wins

The HMS 8th grade volleyball team defeated Mexico on Monday in straight sets, 25-18, 25-11.

“The girls did great keeping control of the pace and tempo of the match,” Hannibal coach Carli Penrod said. “They continuously took free balls from the other team and used them for kills. Katie Greening led us with a serving run of nine points to take the last set.”

Hannibal also topped Winfield in three games last Thursday.

The Lady Pirates won the opening set 25-16 before falling 25-18 in the second game to force an all-or-nothing Game 3.

Hannibal won the third set 15-12.

“The girls really had to shake off their mistakes and move on with the game to close the match,” Penrod said. “Bella Falconer stayed composed to serve our last three winning points.”
