The Hannibal softball team broke through for four runs in the top of the 10th inning to secure an 11-8 win over Rock Bridge.

The Hannibal softball team wanted nothing more Thursday night than to put an end to its road game.

The Lady Pirates finally found a way.

Hannibal (14-9) broke through for four runs in the top of the 10th inning to secure an 11-8 win over Rock Bridge (11-14).

“They wanted to be done several innings before that, but they were definitely ready for something to happen,” Hannibal coach Kendra Murphy said of her team, which played its fourth extra-innings game of the season but won its first.

Tori Moore tripled to lead off the final rally and scored on an error that allowed Olivia Pfeifer to reach base. Taylor Simms got on via a Lady Bruins miscue, and Josie Zeiger tripled to right field to score her. Zeiger later came home on a fielder's choice.

“We put the ball in play and made things happen,” Murphy said. “We were helped a lot with errors, but I'm not taking anything away from our girls because they definitely made things happen.”

The first three Rock Bridge batters reached base to start the bottom of the inning before Hannibal pitcher Desarae Garcia recorded a strikeout and pair of groundouts to close the contest.

Garcia went the distance to earn a complete-game victory on the mound, scattering 15 hits while allowing eight runs (six earned). She struck out seven.

“It was almost like she just kept throwing better and better as the game went on, so we left her out there,” Murphy said.

After Hannibal got on the board first with an RBI single by Haley Bautch in the top of the first inning, Rock Bridge countered to open up a 4-1 lead in the third.

It stayed that way until the fourth inning, when the Lady Pirates scored three runs to knot the score. Taylor Wilson grounded out to drive home Lauran Haye before Pfeifer reached on an error that allowed runs by Bautch and Sydney Hart.

Hannibal took a 6-4 lead in the top of the sixth with back-to-back RBI knocks by Simms and Zeiger.

The first four Rock Bridge batters reached to start the bottom of the frame as the hosts plated a pair to make it 6-all. The Lady Bruins had runners on second and third with nobody out before Garcia escaped the jam with a fly out, a pop out and a strikeout.

Neither squad scored in the seventh to enter extra innings.

Hannibal appeared headed toward a win when Zeiger scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Garcia in the top of the ninth, but Rock Bridge took advantage of Hannibal's fourth of five errors on the night to make it 7-7 in the bottom half.

Hannibal travels to face Palmyra at 5 p.m. on Monday.
