The Palmyra girls tennis team needed just five matches Tuesday to dispose of Kirksville in the Class 1 District 8 tournament. The Lady Panthers won the first five matches to advance to the district championship game Thursday evening.

Lauryn Wear and Robby Meyers kicked off the match with an 8-0 win on the No. 3 doubles court.

Top doubles tandem of Kendra Maples and Emmy Griesbaum won 8-2, while Raegan Barnett and Amy Bryan also won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Bryan breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win on the No. 5 singles court before Meyers clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.

Barnett won 6-3 in the first set of her No. 4 singles match before it was called off due to the top-seeded Lady Panthers picking up the necessary five points.

“The girls played well and are all excited to play for a district championship on Thursday,” Lady Panthers coach Jessica Gottman said.

Palmyra (12-4) will host No. 2 seed Mexico on Thursday at 4 p.m.
