HMS 7th grade spikers soar to victory

The Hannibal Middle School 7th grade volleyball team topped Bowling Green 25-19, 25-9 in straight sets Monday.

Sophie Welch served six straight points in the second set for the host Lady Pirates en route to the victory.

"They played as a team with lots of communication in Game 2 to pull ahead for the win," coach Megan Phillips said.

Hannibal also beat Troy 25-8 in both games of a sweep last Thursday.


Hannibal 8th graders top Bowling Green

Kendel Locke served 10 straight points for the Hannibal Middle School 8th grade volleyball team in the first set of a 25-9, 25-14 win over Bowling Green on Monday.

"The girls did great controlling the ball," Hannibal coach Carli Penrod said. "They really stayed disciplined to use the free balls and keep swinging."

Hannibal also beat Troy 25-7, 25-15 last Thursday.


Inside-the-park homer lifts HMS Lady Pirates

Chloe Simms hit an inside-the-park home run Monday to help the Hannibal Middle School softball team to a 2-1 win over Clark County.

Kylie McAfee was the winning pitcher for the Lady Pirates.

Hannibal followed that victory with an 11-1 romp over Black Hawk on Tuesday, when the Lady Pirates scored six runs in the second inning to pull away.

Sadie Stine scored three runs in the win.
