Markell Humphrey came up with an impact play in a big moment for the Hannibal 7th grade football team Tuesday at Porter Stadium.

Palmyra was on the verge of scoring a fourth-quarter touchdown to grow its lead to two touchdowns against host Hannibal. That is, until Humphrey stripped the ball from a Panthers running back on the Pirates 1-yard line and ran it back for a 99-yard score.

The touchdown knotted the score at 12.

Hannibal stopped Palmyra on its ensuing possession to get the ball back with less than a minute on the clock. The home team drove to the visitors' 25-yard line but was unable to score again before time expired.

The area rivals finished the game in a tie.

Humphrey ran in the first touchdown of the night for Hannibal from seven yards out before Palmyra intercepted a Pirates pass to set up an equalizing score.

Palmyra scored a 20-yard touchdown in the final second of the first half to take a 12-6 lead into halftime.

After the break, the Hannibal defense stiffened to keep Palmyra from any further damage.
