The Mark Twain softball team exploded for five runs in the third inning Thursday night en route to a 5-0 win over Wellsville.

McKenzie Lathrom singled home Elizabeth Trower for the first run of the game and later came home to score on a Lynsie Boling double. Lexi Hummel smacked a base hit to left to drive in Sara Spoonhower to make it 3-0.

Shelby Hayes contributed an RBI groundout before Sydnee Brothers hit a line-drive RBI single to center that knocked in Hummel.

The rally provided the only scoring of the night as Brothers earned the victory in the circle for the Lady Tigers. The freshman threw a complete-game 1-hitter while striking out five batters, though she did issue six free passes.

Hummel and Brothers paced Mark Twain with two hits a piece.

Eight Lady Tigers reached base at least once.

Mark Twain (2-10) travels to Louisiana for a road game Monday.
