The Mark Twain softball team couldn't hold onto the lead in a 10-7 loss at Wright City on Tuesday night.

Mark Twain surged ahead 1-0 after the first inning when Lynsie Boling contributed an RBI groundout to score fellow senior McKenzie Lathrom.

Sydnee Brothers smoked an RBI single up the middle in the top of the fourth to score Lexi Hummel before Alyssa Ferry grounded out to bring home Shelby Hayes to make it 3-2.

But the Lady Wildcats plated eight runs over the final three innings to send the Lady Tigers (1-10) to an Eastern Missouri Conference loss.

Wright City opened up a 10-3 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh inning. Mark Twain came alive to score four runs with two outs, but the comeback attempt was too little too late. 

Sara Spoonhower singled to left to score Bria Hooley for the Lady Tigers' first run of the seventh inning. Hayes then singled to center to score Spoonhower before Boling and Hummel each came around to score thanks to an error on the play. 

Brothers took the loss on the mound for Mark Twain. She pitched 4 2/3 innings while allowing four earned runs on five hits. Hayes finished the game in relief and allowed the final six tallies.

Madelyn Webb earned the win for Wright City, scattering seven hits and four runs over seven innings of work. 

Hummel led the Lady Tigers with a 2-for-3 showing at the plate, including two runs and a walk. Hayes also wrapped out two hits.

Mark Twain hosts Wellsville on Thursday.
