The Hannibal Middle School football teams picked up a pair of wins at Kirksville on Tuesday.


HMS 7th grade comes from behind to win

The Hannibal Middle School 7th grade football team fell behind early for the second straight game.

Yet again, the Pirates (2-0) battled back to win.

Trailing 8-0 at halftime, Hannibal scored three second-half touchdowns to secure an 18-14 win at Kirksville on Tuesday night.

Markell Humphrey capped the visitors' first drive of the third quarter with a 15-yard touchdown run, reaching for the pylon to pull within 8-6.

After a few big stops by the Hannibal defense, quarterback Brock Wiley found Humphrey for a 55-yard touchdown completion to give the Pirates their first lead. Soon after, Wiley powered his way to the end zone from three yards out to put Hannibal ahead 18-8.

Kirksville scored late to cut its deficit it 18-14, but Hannibal prevented any further damage. The Pirates defense was led by Dalton Miller (two sacks) and Drew Porter (several key tackles).


HMS 8th grade dominates for road victory

The Hannibal Middle School 8th grade football team encountered little trouble downing Kirksville for a 34-12 road victory Tuesday.

John Clubine and Tanner Leonard each scored a pair of rushing touchdowns to lead the way for the Pirates. Clubine's scores came from 56 and 19 yards, while Leonard raced in touchdowns of 55 and 18 yards.

Tanner VanWinkle came up with the standout defensive play of the night when he returned an interception 18 yards for a score.

Rommell Pinner scored a conversion run and Harry Oden caught a conversion pass to round out Hannibal's points.
