The Mark Twain softball team made the most of opportunities Saturday morning at the North Shelby Tournament to defeat Linn County 5-1 for its first win of the season.

Charley Seddon lifted a first-inning fly ball to center field to reach on an error that brought home Lady Tigers Sara Spoonhower, Lynsie Boling and Emma Clarkson for a 3-run edge.

Boling came through with an RBI single in the second to score Elizabeth Trower before Clarkson scurried home on a Linn County misplay in the third for the final Mark Twain (1-9) tally.

Sydnee Brothers earned a complete game win on the mound, striking out seven batters while allowing just a single run, which came in the bottom of the first. 

Neither team scored in the final four innings. 

All five of Mark Twain's runs were unearned as Linn County committed 11 errors in the field.

Mark Twain went on to lose 10-4 to Paris and 14-0 to Van-Far later Saturday.
