The Hannibal girls tennis team was shut out 9-0 by Quincy Notre Dame in a road match Tuesday.

Ashlyn Nichols, the Lady Pirates' No. 1 singles player, came closest to earning a point for Hannibal. She fell in straight sets 4-6, 4-6.

“Ashlyn had a very nice match with plenty of chances to take the second set,” Hannibal coach Bob Catalpa said. “She lost two deuce games to end the match. We just got overpowered every other spot.”

Andrea Martin fell 0-6, 1-6 at No. 2. Blair Burton and Emilee Carleton each lost 1-6, 0-6 at No. 3 and 4, respectively. Liz Stilley (No. 5) and Kylee Johnson (No. 6) were each shut out on the singles court.

In doubles, Nichols and Burton lost the No. 1 matchup 0-8, the same score Stilley and Johnson dropped the No. 3 competition. Martin and Carleton fell 1-8 at No. 2.

Elizabeth Brummell picked up an 8-3 win in junior varsity singles for the Lady Pirates' bright spot of the day.

Hannibal travels to Marshall for a North Central Missouri Conference match on Thursday.
