Cory Allensworth netted a second-half hat trick Thursday night to lead the Hannibal boys soccer team to a 4-2 North Central Missouri Conference win at Boonville.

The senior forward gave Hannibal (4-1, 2-0 NCMC) a 2-1 lead in the 49th minute with his first goal and proceeded to tack on two more, both off assists from midfielder Colton Brown.

Hannibal junior Adam Albright scored the first goal of the night in the 22nd minute to give the visitors a 1-0 halftime edge.

Boonville tied it up with a penalty kick two minutes into the second half and scored again in the 79th minute, but not until Allensworth had sufficiently done his damage.

“This was another road win to start the season off in conference play,” Hannibal coach Eric Hill said. “In the two long trips that we've made so far, we've come away with wins, and that's a big plus.”

Hannibal recorded 13 shots on goal, with most coming during the offensive surge in the second half. Goalkeeper Gabe Falconer made six saves to earn the win.

“We moved the ball around really well,” Hill said. “First half, especially, we were a little slow on our shot. We probably hesitated a little too long and could've gotten some more shots off and had more opportunities in the first half like we had the second half. But the guys moved a lot quicker toward the goal in the second half, and it paid off and got us the win.”

JV BATTLES TO SCORELESS TIE

The Hannibal junior varsity team battled Boonville JV to a scoreless tie Thursday.

“It was a back and forth game with John Maune in goal,” Hill said. “He came up big and made a couple real nice saves. Good overall performance by him, and a tough-fought game for the JV team.”
