The Mark Twain softball team roped five singles in the third inning Tuesday to take an 8-5 lead in a slugfest against Montgomery County.
McKenzie Lathrom singled home Sydnee Brothers to tie the score 5-all before Lexi Hummel and Emma Clarkson both scored on an error. Lynsie Boling then sent an RBI single to left field to give the Lady Tigers their biggest lead of the night.
It soon went away in what turned into a 16-8 home loss.
Montgomery County responded for two runs in the fourth inning to pull within 8-7 and exploded for an 8-run fifth inning to surge ahead. The visitors tacked on another in the sixth to further extend their advantage.
Brothers took the loss for Mark Twain. The hurler allowed six earned runs over six innings of work. Ten of the Lady Wildcats' 16 runs were unearned due to nine Lady Tiger fielding errors.
Lathrom led Mark Twain with a 4-for-4 day at the plate, including two runs and an RBI. Boling finished 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Brothers and Hummel each recorded two hits a piece.
Mark Twain outhit Montgomery County 12-11.
The Lady Tigers (0-4) return to the diamond Thursday when they play host to Bowling Green.
