The Hannibal softball team scored the final six runs Monday night, but that wasn't enough in a 7-6 loss at Fulton in a North Central Missouri Conference game.
Trailing 7-0 through four innings, the Lady Pirates (5-4, 3-1 NCMC) clawed back with a pair of runs in the fifth inning and four more in the sixth to pull within one run down.
Lauran Haye was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth before Taylor Wilson singled to center to score Olivia Pfeifer. Hailey Whitaker then doubled home Avery Lake for the first tally in the sixth, followed by a 2-RBI single by Pfeifer and an RBI groundout off the bat of Taylor Simms to make it 7-6.
But Fulton starting pitcher Kendalyn Roesner worked around a 2-out walk to Hailey Whitaker in the seventh inning to secure a complete-game victory for the home team. Roesner tossed 139 pitches over seven innings and allowed nine free passes.
Desarae Garcia took the loss for Hannibal, surrendering seven runs (three earned) while striking out five over six innings of work. She allowed 10 hits and walked one.
The Lady Pirates defense committed four errors. The first led to a pair of two-out runs in the first inning that put the visitors in an early hole. Back-to-back infield miscues in the fourth ignited a 4-run rally for Fulton that broke the game open.
Pfeifer led the Hannibal offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate that featured 2 RBI and 1 run scored.
Hannibal hosts Moberly at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
