With only 16 swimmers competing, the Hannibal Hurricanes finished fifth of 11 teams Saturday in the River Country Championships in Pittsfield.

Leading the charge for the Hurricanes were high-point winners Olivia Johnson (girls 8-and-under), Atticus Sternke (boys 10-and-under), Maddie Johnson (girls 11-12), and Miles McIntyre (boys 13-14).

Olivia Johnson won all four of her individual events, Maddie Johnson won three, and Sternke and McIntyre each won one event and registered three runner-up finishes to lead their respective divisions.

McIntyre also notched personal records in all four individual events as well as his one relay swim. Ashley Clark, competing in the girls 10-and-under division, also recorded 100 percent individual PRs.

Swimming PRs on their relay assignments were Alex Becker, Jaynee Durst, Mackenzie Livesay, Miles McIntyre, Mason McIntyre and Kael Viehmann. Becker and Durst had the biggest time drops in these swims, Becker cutting three seconds off her previous best to go 41.89 on the free leg of the mixed 11-12 200-yard medley relay and Durst chopping two seconds off her breast stroke leg to go 37.44 in the mixed 13-14 200 medley relay.
