Although American Legion Post 55 AAA baseball came away with a loss Thursday night, coach Dennis McMillen was optimistic.

“Although we lost 4-2 we played well,” he said. “As a team we had no errors.”

Ben Smith, AAA’s starting pitcher, had five strikeouts in three innings. Cooper Hudnut followed that performance with three strikeouts for AAA. Koy Smith also pitched three innings. Combined, the three pitchers allowed five hits.

At the plate Jacob Stratton was 2 for 5.

“We had bases loaded in bottom of 9th,” McMillen said. “(We) just couldn’t push the runs across.

On Friday night, the team played Chillicothe, winning by a final of 10-7.

The team had just enough players to field. Brady Hooley was called upon to pitch. Chillicothe scored four in the top of the first inning, but Hannibal came back and evened the score in the bottom of the first. Ashton Oberman entered the game to pitch in the top of the second and held Chillicothe to only three runs the rest of the game. Oberman also recorded six strikeouts.

Offense came alive for Hannibal, with Jacob Stratton going 2 for 3 with a walk and Koy Smith and Drake Serbin going 2 for 4.

On Saturday, Hannibal played Green City, losing 8-2.
