The Mark Twain track and field team registered a pair of all-state finishes and another near-miss Friday during the first day of the Class 2 championships in Jefferson City.

The Mark Twain track and field team registered a pair of all-state finishes and another near-miss Friday during the first day of the Class 2 championships in Jefferson City.

Mark Twain's 4x800 meter girls relay team of senior Katie Neff, junior McKenzie Lathrom, sophomore Kelsey Kendall and senior Madalyn Ford raced to an eighth place all-state finish. The quartet ran a 10:24.49, setting a season record by more than 12 seconds.

Lathrom also placed fifth in the triple jump to earn all-state honors. Lathrom's best attempt was 34 feet, 10 ½ inches.

Junior Devin Neff barely missed the podium in the boys 1,600 meters, placing ninth with a time of 4:40.90. Neff will also run Saturday in the boys 3,200 race.

Also on Saturday, Tigers thrower Dalton Hill will compete in the discus; Ford will race in the girls 1,600 meters; and Lathrom makes her state return in the long jump looking for her third medal of the weekend.
