Beginning Wednesday, Feb. 22, Missouri Department of Transportation bridge crews will be working on north and southbound U.S. 61, just north of Troy at the Cuivre River bridges.
Crews will begin working under the southbound Cuivre River Bridge on Feb. 22 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Trucks will be entering and exiting the work zone area over North Lincoln Drive to a hauling road going to the bridge. The work is expected to take just over two weeks.
MoDOT has been monitoring the bridge over the past few months because of a scour issue. Scour occurs under bridges where the river current has eroded the rock and soil which keeps the piers stable. According to MoDOT Area Engineer Erik Maninga, 2,500 tons of riprap around the piers and bank area to correct the problem.
The Cuivre River bridges on U.S. 61 were built in 1969 and handle about 10,000 cars on average a day.
