I stopped by a friend’s house to borrow a couple of tools from him for the weekend. He told me they were in his side shed and asked me to follow him.
Before going in he flipped on the light switch, and the bulb flashed. I could instantly see he kept a full shed, and now he wanted me to attempt following him with no lights. He insisted we go inside.
It was like traversing a maze, although my buddy seemed to have the route memorized. I really wasn’t sure why I had to be with him at this point. I guess I was his entertainment for the day.
He asked me if I was afraid of snakes. Much to his dissatisfaction I answered, “No”. He told me if I feel something like a rope, it was his pet black snake. Of course that is the farmer’s friend when it comes to mouse control.
I felt his friend’s tail brush my hat and make contact with my forehead as we were leaving the shed. As I stepped into the sunlight, I could feel the cool snake body on my forehead.
I asked my friend if his snake was on my hat, and he began to laugh. Apparently I had walked through another one of the farmer’s friends. I had found his fly strip. He graciously removed it and took the better part of one of my eyebrows with him.
I think next time I’ll just buy the tools I need.
