Security was heightened Friday at all Hannibal public schools and at the Bank of Hannibal, 3817 McMasters Ave., following a pair of phone threats. No incidents were reported at either location.
Brownie Troop No. 15 planted at tree in Huckleberry Park in honor of Arbor Day and Earth Day. The troop’s motto for the year is “giving from the heart” and they wanted to give this Bald Cypress tree to the community for everyone to enjoy. Master Barnum hosted a Regional Taekwondo Tournament in Chicago, Ill., on April 12. ATA competitors were there for top honors in forms, sparring, weapons and Xtreme martial arts. Taylor Estes, 1st degree black belt, from Edwards ATA Black Belt Academy in Hannibal, took first place in sparring and 4th place in weapons.
Eugene Field Title I teacher, Marcia Chesser, received a $300 grant from NEA and Staples. A check was presented to Mrs. Chesser by NEA representive, Stacey Graves. The grant money will be used to purchase nonfiction books for student take-home bags. Third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students will be able check out a bag of books that are interesting to them to take home and read with their families.

I stopped by a friend’s house to borrow a couple of tools from him for the weekend. He told me they were in his side shed and asked me to follow him.
Before going in he flipped on the light switch, and the bulb flashed. I could instantly see he kept a full shed, and now he wanted me to attempt following him with no lights. He insisted we go inside.

Recently celebrating their second anniversary, the Campus Community Connectors at Hannibal-LaGrange College finished the school year by helping at the yearly Awards Chapel, ushering and handing out programs for the Music Department Concert, hosting the Nursing Department pinning Ceremony Reception, and assisting with commencement on May 3.
Michael Chlebanowski accepted an invitation from the Riverland Artists Group to display his paintings at the Hannibal Clinic during the month of May. Riverland Artist’s Group, whose focus is the creation of visual art, sponsors Art in Public Spaces, a program that brings fresh artwork to prevalent public locations in Hannibal.
