Letter to the Editor: Viewpoint of an observer

I watched Congress on CSPAN this weekend and listened intently to arguments by both Democrats and Republicans before they voted on the Health Care bill. As an independent voter, I felt Democratic arguments were clearly more factual and compelling than those by Republicans which placed political goals above the public’s genuine interests. Why else would all but one Republican not vote for a bill modified to exclude many goals of Democrats to achieve some measure of bipartisan support?
It appears the primary Republican goal is to ensure nothing is accomplished while Democrats are the congressional majority. While not surprised, I am disappointed that my congressman (Blaine Leutkemeyer) places political loyalty  above solving problems. Given the many pressing issues of the country, I can not condone Republican intransigence in congress, and I will hold them accountable on election day.
