On behalf of our Outreach/Mission Committee, Jackie Kelly and I would like to thank the Courier-Post for their help in getting our message out about our 1002 Plus Pillows for Soldiers “Make a Difference Day” project. Your readers have kindly embraced our mission of supplying our brave men and women with pillows in addition to other personal hygiene and food products.
To date, our donated items consist of over 2,700 Beanie Babies, 132 pairs of socks, six packages of wipes, 15 cylinders of wipes, 137 packages of beef jerky, 12 cans of peanuts, 128 packages of peanuts, 72 Pez, three Pringles, 28 thank you notes, along with other miscellaneous items.
We are truly grateful for each and every item given in the name of our Armed Forces. But our task is not done. We seek your readers’ aide in adding to our inventory. Our thanks to Gully Transportation for kindly transporting our host of items to Joliet, Ill., on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009.
If anyone would like to join us in filling Soldiers Care Packages, we offer these suggestions: 72-inch shoe strings, socks, wipes, foot powder, flea powder, beef jerky, canned soup, chicken or tuna, instant oatmeal, granola bars, and cards. Monetary donations would be appreciated.
As the Courier-Post filters through the community, your readers reach out to us. One by one, we are making a difference. The team at the First United Methodist Church, 901 Broadway, Hannibal, Mo., extends our heartfelt thanks.
Any questions, please contact Vickie Witthaus (221-3563) or Jackie Kelly (221-5173).
