Tonight marks the opening performance for Hannibal High School singers and dancers performing “Footloose.” As previously reported by the Courier-Post, Footloose will put the spotlight on the talents of students, as well as offering a valued evening of entertainments for the audience.
Hannibal native, Sara Kurz, is the director of this year’s production. She chose the musical “Footloose” because the roles paralleled the talents offered by the diverse group of students.
Based on the 1984 movie of the same name, “Footloose” focuses on the plans of a new kids moving into a town that outlawed dancing. He makes plans to stage his own senior prom.
On that premise, the students plot and plan, pulling together the personalities of classmates and offering an inspirational message.
Students told the Courier-Post of the costumes that reflect upon the 1980s, and musical numbers that are fun for the cast to perform. There are stage crew members, a chorus and dancers, plus the characters with speaking roles. The production is open to all HHS students, via audition.
In the past, the fall musicals have been a highlight of the season for students and audience members as well. After viewing parts of the show during rehearsals, this year’s program promises to be as popular as in the past.
We encourage everyone to take advantage of this fine entertainment venue and attend the 7 p.m. shows on either Thursday, Friday or Saturday. The location is the Hannibal High School auditorium, and tickets are $8 — available at the door.
