The Postal Service is conducting an Area Mail Processing (AMP study and it could mean the permanent loss of mail processing at the Quincy, Ill., facility. This could negatively impact the mail service to our area. The Postal Service is soliciting public opinion and that is the most vital part of this process. Please voice your opinion to the USPS Customer Affairs Manager and oppose the shipping of our mail to Springfield, Ill.
The Quincy Processing and Distribution Annex sorts mail for three geographic areas or sectional centers, specifically towns whose zip codes begin with 623, 634 and 635. If you live or work in this area, your mail service could be affected.
The proposed plan is to ship the mail to Springfield, Ill., for cancellation and processing. Mail that includes prescriptions, bank deposits, invoices, cards, letters, documents, etc., will be impacted. Trucking mail to Springfield, Ill., is not the answer when we are doing it better here in Quincy, Ill.
The burden of the USPS economic situation should not be placed on our local communities. This should not be used as a reason to risk the customer service standards we now receive.
The USPS is required to solicit public input as part of this process. Let’s give it to them? We encourage everyone to contact their local, state and national elected officials to voice their concerns as well. The USPS contact is: Loretta Tolliver, customer affairs manager, 1720 Market St., Room 1015, St. Louis, MO 63155-9631.
