Hannibal, MO —

As a subscriber to the Hannibal Courier-Post and the Mexico Ledger, I noticed an identical letter in each of the papers, only with different signatures. It appears some people are using the opinion column as an agenda to influence President Obama’s health care plan. When I see this it makes we wonder who is behind the articles.
There isn’t a man, woman or child living in Missouri who would be denied emergency health care whether they could afford it or not. Also, the private markets have not failed us. Those of us who have private health care are well taken care of.
I would prefer they not mess with my health care. What I am afraid will happen, the government’s involvement will lead to total turmoil and waste along with rationing of health care being placed in the hands of some appointed czar, who will then decide at some time or another whether my life is worth saving.
Just look how the government handles three of its responsibilities. Social Security, thousands of dollars are mailed each month to people who have been dead for years. Medicare, the cheating and fraud in this program along with Medicaid is unbelievable. Socialized medicine cannot work for us. We are a nation of free enterprise, the majority of us would prefer the government stay as far away from our daily lives as possible. With the inauguration of our new president, we are now seeing proposed changes, including universal medicine, that will totally bankrupt our country with no hope of recovery.
